Burloak Water Purification Plant - Intake Tunnel
Dean Construction Co Ltd was retained by C&M MacNally Engineering Corp for the installation of the offshore raw water intake pipeline and intermediate riser shaft for the intake tunnel.
The marine work consisted of:
Drilling a 3.5 m Ø shaft through bedrock  and installation of  a vertical riser to connect the intake tunnel with the lakebed intake pipeline.
Drilling and blasting from a Jack-up barge a marine trench 1060m long and 4m wide x 4m deep to accomodate the installation of 1.8m dia concrete intake pipe.
Fabrication and installation of a reinforced intake structure.
All in water activities were assisted by accurate global positioning systems and a Clamvision computer software specialized in marine plant positioning for underwater excavation. The work was carried out under very strict environmental control and monitoring of: water turbidity, disruption of fish habitat, in water work window, blasting impact on aquatic life , etc.

Intake Structure
All blasting activities were performed inside an air bubbling curtain in order provide underwater blast protection and to reduce the impact on aquatic life.
